Micro-needling

What is Micro-needling?
Micro-needling, also referred to as dermarolling, uses tiny needles to pierce the skin to allow new collagen to grow. The procedure uses the natural healing abilities of your skin to reduce fine lines, scars and wrinkles. The easy, minimally invasive procedure is great for those who want to treat fine lines or acne scars. After the procedure, your skin will allow for better penetration of products and more collagen will be sent to the epidermis, leaving you with healthy, radiant skin. More collagen = better skin. Micro-needling is one of the most powerful and effective ways to stop early signs of aging and prevent new fine lines and wrinkles from occurring.

What can the Micro-needling treat?

The micro-needling can treat any area on the body, including the face, hands, arms, abdomen, etc. It works on both, fine lines and wrinkles as well as deeper wrinkles and scars, though these conditions may require additional treatment sessions.

Common conditions treated include:

Acne
Acne scarring
Trauma scarring
Fine lines
Wrinkles
Stretch marks
Tired, dull skin
The micro-channels created by the micro-needle also allow the skin to better absorb topical creams, gels, and serums.

What are the benefits?
Smooth rough skin and even skin texture
Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
Lessen crow’s feet and laugh line
Lighten scars from surgery, acne, or illness
Shrink large pores
Reduce sun damage
Rejuvenate aging skin
Lighten or reduce stretch marks
What should patients expect during treatment?

Before treatment starts, a thin layer of topical gel is applied to the skin and the Micro-needle is set to the appropriate depth to create micro-injuries on the outer layer of skin without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.

As the Micro-needle moves across the treatment area, patients report a feeling similar to light sandpaper moving across the skin. The speed at which the Micro-needle operates combined with the topical gel makes for a more comfortable experience.
Where can you get the procedure?
Although there are at-home kits for micro-needling (dermarolling) it is best to have the procedure performed by a trained professional to ensure the best care and results.
What is the recovery time?
After the procedure you will experience some redness and mild swelling for 2-4 days. For some patients they may notice slight bruising or several tiny blood spots that will disappear in 24-48 hours. Patients should avoid chemical peels, make up, and sun exposure for the several days following the procedure. Your dermatologist will provide further details on what to expect following your procedure.
