Eczema

Eczema is a very irritating and unlikable skin condition. It is seen in people of all ages. When eczema occurs the skin becomes inflamed resulting irritation or rash. Irritation and rash might be widespread or limited to certain areas of the body. Atopic dermatitis is the mostly seen eczema, which is usually considered to be a chronic condition. The actual reason of eczema is not easy to trace. Mostly it results from an allergic reaction which causes the immune system to overreact. Bacteria can play a role to cause eczema. Bacteria can create a film on the skin which makes the blockage of sweat glands. This skin condition often runs in families. But this is not considered as a contagious disease. Symptoms include itchy skin and rashes that occur on the face, hands, feet and other parts of the body.


Prevention
Actions can be taken to prevent eczema outbreaks or reduce some of the symptoms. Bath shower time is recommended not be more than 15 minutes and use mild soaps which will not remove much of natural oils from the skin. Moisture level of the skin should be maintained in a daily basis. You should moisturize you skin daily by using moisturizing cream or lotion which is suitable for your skin type (dry, oily, sensitive etc). Make sure that you are using a cream or lotion containing ingredients which are known for their therapeutic effects.

Treatment
To eliminate the inflammation and minimize your symptoms there are variety of treatments can be tried. Inflammation and itching can be kept under control by using steroid creams. Steroids creams are often effective and can offer relaxing effect to the skin. Antibiotic regimen might be needed if any sort of infection or any cracking has done to skin due to scratching. If your eczema is severe an immunosuppressant medication might also be required. A dermatologist can help you in many ways and you can also discuss about additional option available.
If your child has mild eczema:
• Moisturizer is particularly essential. Using a cream or ointment will generally be more effective than lotions at relieving the dry skin.
• Apply moisturizer at least twice a day.
• A 1% hydrocortisone ointment can also be helpful.
• If you plan to use eczema medicine that you can buy without a prescription, talk with your child’s pediatrician before using it.
